Jayne Howard Feldman

Jayne will be leading a 3-day Angelic Blessings Workshop, speaking at the Friday night Evening Program, and doing consultations at SESC 2012.

Jayne Howard Feldman is the author of COMMUNE WITH THE ANGELS (ARE Press, 1992) which is now in its 12th printing and published in five languages; DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ANGELS (ARE Press, 2002) and ANGELS BY MY SIDE (Author House, 2004).

Her books will be available for purchase in the SESC Art Center.

She is the founder of BE AN ANGEL DAY – celebrated annually on August 22nd. Additionally she is the founder of INSPIRE YOUR HEART WITH THE ARTS DAY celebrated on January 31st.

Jayne is an ordained interfaith minister, Reiki Master and curator of Angel Heights Healing Arts Center. Jayne maintains a private spiritual life coaching and counseling practice offering telephone and in-person consultations. She holds spiritual development classes in her home and since 1997 has produced a monthly inspirational CD for subscribers around the world.

Vaughn Boone

Stanley Peele

Stanley and Vaughn Boone will be a teaching a 3-day workshop on "Healing" at SESC 2012.

Stanley is an emergency judge, a newspaper columnist, mediator, counselor, and nursing home volunteer. He helped create organizations dealing with young people and has been a Big Brother to many youngsters. He has been active in spiritual healing and is a facilitator of spiritual groups. He has written articles and three books: A Simple Guide to Spiritual Healing, The River of Light, and What I Learned From Edgar Cayce . He has had a near-death experience and several out-of-body experiences. Other than that, he has not done much. (He has a great sense of humor, obviously!)

Richard Hughson

Viola Ebert

Viola and LeRoy Zemke will lovingly facilitate our Healing Service on Saturday night.

Coming from humble beginnings on the plains of Oklahoma, Viola attended college at the age of 16, and went on to earn Bachelors and Masters degrees in Sociology and Psychology, and a Ph.D. in Neuropsychology. Along the way, she became an inventor, author, songwriter, and world traveler. Her career paths have been as diverse as working in artist management in the music business in New York City and Nashville, practicing as a neuropsychologist, and practicing and teaching as a Reiki Master of the Usui System of Natural Healing in locales around the world from Europe and Asia to Mexico and the United States. Viola is a Reiki Master in the lineage of Dr. Mikao Usui, Hawayo Takata, and Virginia Samdahl.

When she is not traveling, writing, and healing, Viola enjoys spending time with her two daughters and six grandchildren.

A Day at the Conference!

What is a day at the Southeastern Spiritual Conference like? Will I have to share a room with someone? - this is a college campus after all! If I am flying in will I need to take a cab to the campus? Will I be bored? Will I get hungry and need to bring my own snacks? Do I need to bring my own pillow? So many questions that can come to mind!

If you are registered to stay on campus, when you arrive on Wednesday afternoon you will go to the Game Room at the South Apartments where you will receive a laminated nametag that also has the daily schedule printed on the back. You will receive a sheet that tells the location of your workshops, all the free time activities, and the rap sessions. Attached to your lanyard will be your room key and building key card (or something similar - Guilford is in the process of changing over the access to the buildings.) You will also receive a wristband for your meals - it is your choice whether you wear it on your arm or attach it to your lanyard. Day students will also receive a nametag - registration for day students arriving after Wednesday afternoon will be outside the Multipurpose Room/Community Center at the South Apartments.

If you are flying in to GSO, please let us know when you register so that we can make transportation arrangements for you. You will also need to make arrangements for linens (see this explained in the next section.)

If you are a day student, you may purchase meal tickets on campus each day or a for the full conference. As soon as that info is available, it will be posted on the website, but last year the charge was $80 for the full conference.

You may want to learn about our Guardian Angel program and sign up to participate. Many of our workshop presenters also do consultations and/or bodywork for a fee. You can make appointments and pay for these sessions once you are registered for conference (through this website, by phone or by mail) or at the consultation desk on campus. Everything will be located in the Community Center/Game Room area.

Your dorm room will be in the South Apartments. Each apartment has a living and dining area which includes a table and four chairs, a full kitchen, two baths, and four private bedrooms. When you fill out your registration form, you may request specific suitemates. These buildings are three stories and the rooms on the first floor are reserved for those that have physical problems that prohibit them from climbing stairs.

Pillows are provided, but linens are not. If you are driving in, please bring your sheets, blankets, towels, washcloths and toiletries. If you are flying, you may rent a linen packet which includes sheets,pillowcase, blanket, a couple of towels and washcloths. The cost is $20.

Even though there is a full kitchen, there are no utensils, pots or coffeemakers provided so if you're planning on whipping up a batch of brownies at midnight you'll need to remember that! If you think you will need some snacks during the day it would be best to bring some, as the cafeteria is only open at specific hours. WiFi was being installed all over campus at last year's conference, so it should be easy to connect if you choose to bring your laptops.

Our first meal together will be dinner (5:00 - 6:00 PM) at the cafeteria in Founders Hall and we will gather afterwards at the South Apartments multipurpose room for our first evening program, the Opening Ceremony. First night is one of old friends getting reacquainted and new friends being welcomed to our Conference family. Our Art Center is also located in the South Apartments Multi-purpose room so you can browse after each evening program.

Participation in all activities is encouraged but not mandatory!

Each day starts with breakfast in the cafeteria at Founder's Hall. Hours are 7:30 - 8:30 AM. The food is amazing! Of course, if you want, you can stay in your dorm and catch some extra sleep and eat breakfast that you have brought for yourself.

Your first workshop will be from 9:00 - 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 14. You have the option of going or not - this is YOUR spiritual retreat so do with it what you will! All of our workshop presenters are knowledgeable in their fields of study and you are sure to be enriched by their classes and the chance to interact with others with similar interests.

During the free time between the morning classes and lunch you can visit the Art Center and see what all our vendors have made available for purchase or perhaps wander around the beautiful Guilford College campus (hint: there are some great rocking chairs in the front of Founder's Hall!)

Lunch will be served at noon at Founder's Hall in the cafeteria - as are all the meals included in your tuition. The new caterer for the college does some really fine foods, including enough to satisfy the vegetarians in our group. Lunch hours are noon - 1 pm. After lunch, you'll have a little bit of time before your afternoon workshop, which begins at 1:30 PM. The Guilford campus is not large, so most everyone is able to have time to walk to their workshops.

Afternoon workshops are from 1:30 - 3:30 PM. After your afternoon workshop, there will be structured free time activities available between 3:45 - 4:45 PM. Of course, you are free to do anything you'd like!

We will meet again for dinner at Founders Hall ( 5:00 til 6:00 PM) and then gather back at the South Apartment multipurpose room for our evening program at 7 PM. After the program there will be Rap Sessions from 9:15 - 10:15 PM at various locations or you can visit with fellow attendees on the patio. If you are a drummer, please bring your drum for a drum circle! The patio is situated in such a way that those that like to retire early will not be troubled by the drumming.

The Bank Account of Life

This is something we should all remember.

A 92-year-old, petite, well-poised and proud man, who
is fully dressed each morning by eight o'clock, with his hair
fashionably coifed and shaved perfectly, even though he is legally
blind, moved to a nursing home today. His wife of 70 years recently
passed away, making the move necessary.

After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the
nursing home, he smiled sweetly when told his room was ready.

As he maneuvered his walker to the elevator, I provided a visual
description of his tiny room, including the eyelet sheets that had been
hung on his window.

"I love it," he stated with the enthusiasm of an
eight-year-old having just been presented with a new puppy.

"Mr. Jones, you haven't seen the room; just wait."

"That doesn't have anything to do with it," he replied.

"Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time.
Whether I like my room or not doesn't depend on how the furniture is
arranged ... it's how I arrange my mind. I already decided to love it.
It's a decision I make every morning when I wake up. I have a choice; I
can spend the day in bed recounting the difficulty I have with the parts
of my body that no longer work, or get out of bed and be thankful for
the ones that do.

Each day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open, I'll focus on the new day and all the happy memories I've stored away. Just for this time in my life."

Old age is like a bank account. You withdraw from what you've put in.

So, my advice to you would be to deposit a lot of happiness in the bank account of memories!

2 cans black eyed peas, drained
2 cans shoe peg corn, drained
2 cans Ro-Tel tomatoes, drained
I can black beans, drained
2 lg bell peppers, chopped
12 sm green onions, chopped (top and all)
3 ripe tomatoes, chopped fine
1 tsp garlic salt
1 tsp parsley flakes
16 oz bottle Zesty Italian dressing

Many photographers over the past century have used concerned photography to evoke compassion. Stan Schnier is an internationally known photographer based in New York whose photography reflects the mundane world and is directed toward the raising of consciousness. Stan will share some of his photographs and comment upon how they have affected attitudes that have lead to positive changes in our society.

SHAWN GALLAWAY: “I CHOOSE LOVE”

Shawn Gallaway is a multi-talented guitarist, singer-songwriter, playwright, and visual artist. He weaves music, song, and painting into a richly textured experience that calls for enlightened activism and as a tool for healing. Shawn will present songs and artwork related to his personal spiritual journey. He will address becoming a Spiritual Warrior through art and music.

GLORIA KARPINSKI: “PROPHECY: REAL? RELEVANT?”

From Nostradamus to the Bible, from ancient mystics to modern intuitives, prophecy is woven into our human experience. Many prophecies are amazingly fulfilled as declared: many are not. So what do we know about this dynamic that seems to observe events outside time and space? After the titillation and the “oh, wows” that prophecies seem to elicit, what is actually the value, if any, for us in the here and now? Gloria will offer some ideas concerning the subject; share some prophetic experiences of her own and lead a discussion.

This is our annual Healing Service. “Wholeness” is an idea that includes our physical, emotional, and psychological health and our overall wellness. Each of us consciously or unconsciously chooses a lifestyle that supports or hinders the idea of wholeness. With the use of metaphor, humor, and a lively style of presentation, LeRoy Zemke will offer his insights along with some of the most current research that supports a positive program for wholeness.

Many of us are afraid of the dark. Some of us keep our lights on all night; and a few of us even want the TV on all night. We teach our children to be afraid of the dark. We say to them, "Watch out! The Boogey man will get you!

If we look deeply into our own psyche, the bottom line is this: We are afraid of our own shadows.
Last Monday, there were three horror shows on TV. All of them showed scenes of darkness, with eerie music playing. This was an attempt to create an atmosphere of fear. When boy scouts are sitting around the campfire at night, they will tell ghost stories – and the scouts will glance out at the night with apprehension – and, some of them will become fearful.

Recently, on the TV show "Rosemary and Thyme," three women were waiting outside at night, hoping that a criminal would show up. When they heard a noise, all three of them turned on their flashlights to see what it was.
How foolish! Once a person is outside at night, and sits for awhile, her eyes will become accustomed to the light, and she can see perfectly well without flashlights.

Darkness is generally viewed as scary and frightening. This is the way it is pictured in our books, movies, and TV. The message is that darkness is the place where evil dwells.

Nothing could be further from the truth.
Darkness is a natural part of life. Most of the universe is dark.
Our fear causes us to miss a lot. We fail to see the wonderful, creative world of darkness. This world is quite different from the world of light..
I invite you to explore the darkness.

If you have a safe area in your yard or in your apartment area, go outside at night. Do this only if you know of a safe area; or you can do this with friends. If you do not know of a safe area, you can also do this inside. Look for a dark place where you can sit down comfortably. Breathe easily. Allow a few minutes to go by. Be at ease. Be patient. Relax the body and relax the mind. Become absolutely still.

Be very aware of all that is happening in your body. Notice your breathing, how it sounds, how it feels. Notice your heartbeat, the slight rushing of the blood near your inner ear. Notice how your belt feels on your tummy, the feel of your clothing, the feel of air against your skin. Notice the sounds near you. Notice that the longer you remain still, the more you can hear, feel, sense and see. In fact, if someone is walking nearby, they will sound like a clumsy elephant!

When you first sit down you may be a little anxious. Yet, after a while you may feel a sense of security. That which was a little scary at first becomes friendly. In fact, if you are outside, you may have the sense that the earth and the trees welcome you. And stillness banishes fear.
Each tree and each bush has a different quality. You can sense the difference between hardwood trees and pine trees.
If you repeat this exercise, you may feel an increased sense of safety and serenity in the darkness. The night becomes a refuge.

And in time you may find that a trip out into the night will relieve stress. If you will let go of your fear of the night, it will reach out and cover you with a soft blanket of tranquility. You will have found a new friend.

The universe is mostly darkness. It is a busy place. Billions of planets and asteroids dash through the darkness.
Many religions tell us to go toward the light. Yet, if we love both the darkness and the light, we elevate our awareness. Light is only understood as the result of the presence of darkness. The darkness is a place of new beginnings. Each morning is born out of the darkness. Thus the miracle of life is born.

Starting in 1930, and ending in 1954, there was an extremely popular radio series called The Shadow. Each show began with two sentences. Here they are, changed to reflect the truth:

"Who knows what virtue lies in the hearts of men? "The shadows know!!!"

Warren's Thoughts about Conference 2007

As I sit here the day after conference, I feel the humanness creeping back in.

I ask within, what is it that has me feeling closer to this group of people, many of whom I can’t even recall their names, than to my best friends?

What would a man like me, who does not like touching or being touched, be doing not just hugging but truly embracing men and women alike?

The answer I received is that the God Within each of us truly communed openly among us. We lost our age, gender, and even some of our humanness as our Being cracked open with love and light.

As our world tries to take over lives once again, let us set our intent to keep the crack in our Being open and flowing. We can change the world for the better. Crack Power to All!!!

Last summer, several of us at the conference talked about how we would like to have a place on the web where we could gather during the year and keep our conversations going in between conferences.

So I thought we could give this blog a try. We can post conference news here as well as anything else we would like to share with the rest of the SESC family.....stories, memories, inspirations, reviews, whatever!
